HONOR has announced that its AI Deepfake Detection technology will be available globally from April 2025. The feature, integrated into the company’s smartphones, aims to protect users from the growing threat of deepfakes, artificial multimedia content that is increasingly realistic and difficult to detect.

HONOR’s technology analyzes images and videos in real time, detecting any inconsistencies that could indicate manipulation. If a potential deepfake is identified, the user receives an immediate alert.

HONOR’s initiative comes amid growing concern about the spread of deepfakes and their potential negative impact, especially in China, where scams using this method appear to be very common. Several organizations, including Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), are working to develop standards for verifying the authenticity of digital content.

HONOR Magic7 Pro, one of the devices that will receive the feature

“Introduced at IFA 2024, HONOR’s proprietary AI Deepfake Detection technology,” the company’s press release reads, “analyzes subtle inconsistencies that are often invisible to the human eye, including synthetic pixel imperfections, edge composition artifacts, frame-to-frame continuity, and consistency in hairstyles and facial features. When manipulated content is detected, a warning is immediately issued to safeguard users from the potential risk of deepfakes.”

It remains to be seen how effective HONOR’s technology will be in the real world. If you’re interested in trying it out, one of the devices that will support it is the HONOR Magic7 Pro smartphone that we recently reviewed.
