Developer Alkimia Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic have released a demo for Gothic 1 Remake on Steam, called “Nyras’ Prologue.” Available for PC and released as part of the Steam Next Fest: February 2025 Edition, it’s a standalone episode that lets you sample a small portion of the game, experiencing the induction into the colony of Nyras, a secondary character in the final version and a novice like the nameless hero protagonist.
The demo is described as “a unique introduction to the unforgiving world of Gothic,” and includes unique objectives that are required to complete all objectives in Gothic 1 Remake on PC.
Demo Details
For full details on the demo, you can read our recent hands-on review of Gothic 1 Remake, which is based on the demo. In short: upon arrival at the Colony, Nyras must find a place to sleep, getting to know the locals and completing a few short quests. There is no shortage of fights against some of the weaker creatures and some previews of what will be the themes of the game.
The demo does not include some features of the final game, such as character growth, freedom of exploration and so on. However, it allows you to get a good idea of how Gothic 1 Remake will run on your PC, as well as to see Unreal Engine 5 in action.
As noted, the Steam Next Fest will start at 19:00, but many have already published and activated the demos of the games present at the event. Therefore, it is possible to play many demos, including the one of Gothic 1 Remake, a few hours earlier than initially scheduled. To download it, go to the official page of the game
